Almost out from under the rock...

Yeah, I know, I've been getting heaps of requests for more pix, sorry for the delay, been desperately trying to catch up on the kips. Things are swell here in St. K, if not a little sleep deprived.

Gene is, touch wood, a relatively quite little tacker, just waiting for that 3-6week start of colic.. sigh, it can't be this heavenly always right?

D and I finally did the 'Baby Bunting' store shop. it's amazing how much you can spend.. one should just check their credit cards in at the door, and that's just the small stuff we needed on top of all the fantastic baby-wrangling equipment we inherited from Greg and Edyta (again, many thanks to you guys!)We ended up getting one of those convertible change-table/bath combos, the set up we've been using just isn't working for us in the flat with the items we've got (emptying the bath is doing our backs), Dave justified the expense that once we've finished using it for Gene he has a bike cleaning work-bench (oy!)

Annabel, thanks for that link to the yiddish jumpsuit site, methinks Dave will be very interested!

Sayr, sorry not to let you know... kinda knew you were round the corner, but we were trying desperately to minimise the amount of peeps coming to visit at the hospital, -hey, I've got a six-week check-up with my obs at the Freemasons, perhaps if you aren't busy we could catch up that day? -I'll email you..

Okay, 'nuff of the chit-chat.. I'll get onto the pics...

Here's Gene under the phototherapy lamps while he was jaundiced, looking like a true St Kilda fashionista getting his 'solarium tan', although, it's more like an 'untan' as it is used to help eliminate the bilirubin build-up (that made him bright yellow).... (yeah, I know, I'm a medsci geek...)

Gene wrapped up in his 'going home' gear, I was so excited to get him out of the phototherapy crib! he's wearing a matching hat and cardy, and wrapped in a bunny rug his grandma made him.

This image was taken about 5 mins after we arrived home, (those 5 mins were while we waited for Hintele to calm down a bit), he was curious, but very good (the dog that is) Actually, much to my surprise, Hinty has been fantastic, I really thought I'd have jealousy troubles with him, as he's been the sole source of my attention since I got him, but he's adjusting to his lower rank in the pack really well, he knows that my lap is a no-go zone when I'm feeding Gene, but he's allowed to sit on the seat next to us. and he gets lots of pats afterwards as a reward... Touch wood this is a continuing trend.

Music soothes the savage beast....

Well, Gene's not really savage, but the sleep deprivation of two noob parents desperately trying to get their son off to sleepy-bo-bos kinda is.. Gene seems to really like Dave playing the piano. I got a small vid of Dave playing, but I'm not sure how to post videos on this blog (still learning this thing)..

Gene was also really attentive last night when Dave started playing the tuba, I know he's just kinda newborn, but he really did look like he was concentrating on the sound and was very curious about the big bright brassy thing that was being waved around infront of him. I dunno, perhaps it was just wind, isn't that what 'they' say about babies?

This is a pic my mum took of Gene yesterday, it's a typical 'cute' look, as if to say, 'are you gonna just stand there taking pics of me, or are you gonna give me tit?' Seems I'm just a food machine for my son. sigh.

This is what happens after he gets fed.. (the hat was bought by Dave from the front reception of the Maternity unit at the Freemasons, all the nurses seemed to go wild about it, I reckon it's pretty cute too! :D )

Hi! We're home...

Mads here! whew we made it! Gene's finally settled down after the big trip home and I'm sitting on the recliner looking after the 'first born'... Boy was Hintele pleased to see me! Everything went smoothly, the dog was curious but very patient.. enjoying all the new smells. I'm just waiting for the day that he gets hold of one of Gene's dirty nappies and smears himself in it (he likes a good smear with Dave's dirty socks or any bird poo he finds on the ground, can you imagine how exciting a dirty nappy would be for a dog!!!! Oy Gevalt!)

Dave got a pic of the three of us (Gene, Hinty and me)five minutes or so after we came in. I'll get round to posting it and some others of Gene in the 'solarium' photo-watsit that they put him under for his jaundice and a couple of others once D shows me how to stick photos in this bloggy thingemy.

I just want to say a MASSIVE thanks to all the wonderful nurses at the Freemasons, and especially to the girls in Special Care nursery who looked after Gene while he was jaundiced. You girls all rock my world... ;D

Gonna have a rest now, still feeling like I've done a few rounds with Mike Tyson.. It's gonna take a while to get over the birth.

Tidying up

Jaundice nearly gone; Gene and Mads should be home very soon (tomorrow midday). Pizza and Yojimbo. Re-formatted some photos. Thanks for the comments! Annabel, I changed my shirt but not my underwear. *grin*

Our first child

An image of our first child, Hintele (on the left). The label on the IVF dewar said 'Mohawk chinese cresteds'.

So....a needle pulling thread

I sit here in my underwear listening to the washing machine and feeling happy. Madeleine comes home today, but we are unsure if Gene will. He has jaundice, which is common, and so they have him in a solarium-type arrangement which is working well. Mads is pulling up well, but still has a distinctive waddle.

Gail (Madeleine's mum) has been fabulous. Thanks! Gail, I have set you up so that you can add to this blog- ask me how if I forget.

Please leave comments- I have enabled open access, which should mean anyone can post a comment.

love,

David.

Bath Time with nurse

This is one of our favourite nurses. She has a forthright, clear style and gave me the step by step instructions that we needed. \begin{swedishchef}
1. takie the chicken 2. boilie de chicken 3. woop woop woop!

Sometime when he is older, I'll ask him what he was thinking. Probably along the lines of 'I wonder if it'll friends with me?'. Wonder if it will soon become 'Oh no, not again!'. *muse*

Notice how similar it is to handling a chicken....

Bath Time with Mads

What a pornographic, cheesy grin.
